The EXPO ALADI – Colombia 2019 ended its sixth edition with the participation of more than 619 entrepreneurs from the thirteen member countries of the ALADI, from Costa Rica and Guatemala, as guest countries. Such entrepreneurs, in two intense negotiation days, attended more than 4450 meetings, and informed the intention to carry out about 1700 business by 240 million dollars.
The event, organized by the Latin–American Integration Association (ALADI) and PROCOLOMBIA, jointly with the Gobernación de Santander (Government of Santander), the City Hall of Bucaramanga, and the Chamber of Commerce of Bucaramanga, was held from 16 to 18 October, at the Centro de Convenciones “Neomundo” (Conventions Center), in the mentioned city.
The macro-round convened entrepreneurs from the following sectors: construction finishings; processed foods and beverages, leather and leather products, containers and packaging, electrical equipment, and machinery, and agricultural equipment, pharmaceutical products, other chemical industry products, plastics, and medical equipment; services related to ICTs and audiovisual services; textiles, clothing, and footwear.
As in previous editions, on 17 and 18 October, the General Secretariat and the member countries provided advice to entrepreneurs. Likewise, the EXPO ALADI gathered representatives from the Andean Community, the Association of Caribbean States, and the Pacific Alliance.
The Secretary-General of the ALADI, Ambassador Alejandro de la Peña, highlighted that according to the results the decision made in 2014 was not wrong, when this event was initiated, which, in each edition, strengthens, becoming the largest meeting of entrepreneurs in the region, especially SMEs and SMEs of family agriculture.
Flavia Santoro, President of PROCOLOMBIA, stated that “during the two business days, the goods and services of the Colombian exporters were very well received by the international buyers, which continues positioning us as the great regional supplier, with quality and innovation, in chains such as fashion, agrifood, 4.0. industries, chemical products, and life sciences, and metal mechanics”.
Upon the successful closure, the following edition of the EXPO ALADI 2020 was announced, which will be held in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Such results show that the efforts carried out by the Governments and the integration bodies, in a joint work with the entrepreneurs, turn integration into a powerful tool to be included in the agenda, and, that despite the current difficulties there may be in the region, our countries are determined to strengthen bonds, as stated by the Secretary-General of the ALADI during the closure of the event.
